Why so long? This will continue to be asked, and it should. What we do not need is another US-taxpayers' study or manual on Lessons Learned, the enduring fallacy of thinking that civilian and military policy makers can learn from such a document. Our elected leaders strategic lacked understanding of the geopolitical of the region, the cultural dynamics of Afghanistan, and the pervasive corruption in the region. Moreover, some of our rotating generals, and civilian support staff lacked influence and credibility with our elected leaders. Too many people were able to check off a career item or add another bullet on their resume. And, so we lost too many honorable patriots. In time, Afghans from every cultural group will have to find their own way to live with one another, with the support of the country's neighbors.

Very well said, even though parts of it were over my head. I agree with "Leave Afghanistan to the Afghans. They will figure it out. In their own way. In their own time."
